Collagen injections are used to plump up wrinkles and lines on the face and to give the patient a younger appearance. The facial lines that will benefit from collagen injections are crow's feet around the eyes, frown lines on the forehead, and nasolabial lines, which are the creases that form from the nose to the mouth. When natural collagen within the body begins to diminish, the skin sags and starts to develop creases and wrinkles.
Procedure: Collagen injections, administered directly into the affected areas, will replenish the body's lost collagen and take away those signs of aging on the face.
Duration: The duration of results from collagen injections is variable. Collagen's longevity depends on the patient's lifestyle and physical characteristics as well as the part of the body treated. In general, the injected material is likely to disappear faster in areas that are more affected by muscle movement. Effects can typically last anywhere from 3 months to one year.
Anesthesia?: None, topical numbing creams, or injectable lidocaine (“nerve blocks”, much like you might receive at your dentist’s office).
Hospital Stay?: Collagen is an in-office procedure and requires no hospital time.
Recovery period: Occasionally some bruising or swelling will occur, but it is usually minor. Any redness that appears in the injected site usually disappears within 24 hours. However, in some individuals, this redness may persist for up to a week.
